What’s Going on this June in Palmetto Bay

You can always tell the first week after school lets out because it takes twenty minutes less to get anywhere.

All kidding aside, just because the weather is heating up doesn’t mean that you can’t get out and enjoy everything that living in South Florida has to offer. And the best part is you don’t have to drive across the county to enjoy some of the best Miami has to offer. There are dozens of events this month in Palmetto Bay that are worth checking out.

First, you can kick off the summer with a splash at the End of School Summer Splash at Coral Reef Park on June 9th. There will be water slides, games, music, water balloons and more from 1pm to 4pm.

Summer Camps

The problem with summer is that, while it’s great for the kids, we don’t get time off like they do. The good news: there are some great day camps to choose from:

  • Summer Camp

Palmetto Bay’s Summer camp runs for 8 weeks (June 13th to August 5th) for children 5 to 12 years old and you can sign up week-by-week. Their events range from swim days at the Cutler Ridge pool and outdoor sports to weekly field trips and arts & crafts that are both educational and fun. Learn more here (and you can check out their calendar of events here).

  • Tennis Summer Camp

Running from June 13th to August 19th, Tennis Camp is held at Coral Reef Park with a daily program that runs from 9 am to 6 pm. You can sign your kids up for a half-day (9-noon), full day (9-3) or extended day (9-6). Like the Summer Camp, you can sign up week-by-week. You can sign up here or find out more here with Palmetto Bay’s handy Parent Survival Guide.

  • Zoo Miami Summer Camp

For your budding David Attenborough, Zoo Miami’s camp runs from June 20th to August 12th each weekday from 9 am to 4 pm. It’s available for ages from 4 to 12 and includes activities such as animal encounters, interacting with zookeepers and more. Learn more here or contact 305-255-5551 to get it straight from the horse’s mouth.

Father’s Day

Let’s face it: there are only so many ties a man can handle. Fortunately, we have some options this year.

  • Mug Painting

Instead of fighting the crowds at The Falls on the Saturday before Father’s Day, check out the Mug Painting Palmetto Bay is hosting at Thalatta Estate on June 17th (the Friday before Father’s Day) from 6-8pm.

  • BBQ & Car Show

Better yet, take the old man out for some burgers at the Thalatta Estate’s Father’s Day Car Show. From 11am to 3pm on Father’s Day (June 19th), Palmetto Bay is hosting a slew of family friendly events.

  • Fishing Derby

Because there really is no better way to thank dad than to go fishing. Zoo Miami has a Fishing Derby & Breakfast on June 18th from 6:30 to 9:30am to help them remove some invasive species from their lakes. First prize includes a behind-the-scenes tour of their Amazon & Beyond exhibit.

  • Bay Cruise

Deering Estate hosts Pontoon Boat Tours throughout the year with the next one on Father’s Day from 11am to 1 pm. A Deering Estate staff member leads a tour of Biscayne Bay aboard a 45-foot catamaran that touches on topics such as birds, sea mammals, Native Americans, and more.

Deering Estate

One of my favorite things about Palmetto Bay is the Deering Estate, a 400 acre estate that was the home of Charles Deering that is now an environmental and historical preserve. As always, there are plenty of events worth checking out.

  • Summer Cabaret Series

This summer concert series, housed in the Stone House Ballroom, kicks off on June 18th with Bob Folse, a Spanish guitar expert with a jazz-y twist.

  • Sunrise Photography

To celebrate the Summer Solstice (on June 19th), the Estate is hosting a rare opportunity to watch the sunrise over their corner of Biscayne Bay. Starting bright and early (at 5:30am), this is a great opportunity to make all of your friends on Instagram jealous.

As a realtor, I make it a priority to know what’s going on in each city across Miami-Dade County to make sure my clients can find the perfect home in the perfect neighborhood.
