South Miami

“The City of Pleasant Living”south miami

The city of South Miami is one of the oldest municipalities of Miami.  The name “South Miami” was created to differentiate from the rapidly growing city just to the north.  Originally South Miami was quite a bit larger in size at 6 square miles, but in the 1930s the boundaries were reduced to just over three miles.  It’s an area known for many good schools, at least 10 parks, family friendly neighborhoods with old Florida charm and homes often situated on larger pieces of land.

South Miami has a fantastic “town center” including Sunset Place, an outdoor mall of stores, entertainment and restaurants and additionally the surrounding blocks have grown to include more mixed use buildings with outdoor dining, eclectic boutiques, as well as residential living options.  There are also two major hospitals; South Miami Hospital and Baptist Hospital.  In addition the city has taken on some major construction projects beautifying local roads, building medical complexes and city hall.  It’s a city that embraces its history while continuing to grow and flourish.
