Gulliver Preparatory School (a.k.a. Gulliver Prep or simply Gulliver) is one of the most renowned private schools in the country. Families come from all over the world to enroll their children in this prestigious, multi-campus institution. As a result, there’s consistently a great deal of interest in buying a home near Gulliver. If you’re not familiar with these communities, it can be difficult to tell what sets them apart and which is the best option for your family.
On that note, here’s a breakdown of three areas located just minutes from Gulliver Prep’s two campuses: Pinecrest (specifically North Pinecrest), Ponce-Davis, Coral Gables.
Gulliver’s high school campus is located in North Pinecrest and it’s PK-8th grade campus is on Old Cutler right by Gables-By-The-Sea (in Coral Gables, but right at the border between the Gables and Pinecrest). The campuses are roughly 3 miles apart with the heart of North Pinecrest in between them.
North Pinecrest has slightly easier access to South Miami, Downtown Gables and the rest of Miami Dade and its myriad options for dining, shopping, and nightlife.
Nestled in between the Gables and Pinecrest is Ponce-Davis, an incredibly wealthy neighborhood known for its lush landscape and magnificent estates. While having great access to all the amenities of the Gables, South Miami and Pinecrest, Ponce Davis is an unincorporated part of Miami-Dade County – meaning property taxes are lower than the surrounding cities. It’s one of the attractions to the area that has led Ponce-Davis to having so many estate-style homes on large, spacious lots.
Known for its tranquil, suburban atmosphere that feels completely removed from the hustle and bustle of the city but with great access to everything – including Gulliver Prep – Ponce-Davis is always an in-demand neighborhood.
Famously known as the “City Beautiful,” Coral Gables is the ultimate family-friendly city-within-the-city, and arguably one of the most visually impressive towns in the entire United States (yes, seriously). Known for its designer shops and bustling downtown, the Gables has had a unique charm for a century, giving this town a vintage, old world aesthetic you won’t find in other subsets on Miami.
When you think of the Gables, many people think of the area from Downtown Gables to UM, thinking it either stops at US 1 or just a little below at Ponce-Davis. But the Gables runs along Biscayne Bay all the way to SW 152nd st.
So all of those stunning communities along the Bay from Cocoplum down to Gables by the Sea are part of the Gables, which is where Gulliver’s PK-8 campus is located.
This gated, highly exclusive enclave includes approximately 360 custom built homes featuring marble floors, expansive decks, resort-sized pools, and unparalleled waterfront views. Gables by the Sea provides direct access to Biscayne Bay, which is why many homes contain private-deep water boat docks for the area’s famous fishing culture.
The higher price tag on these properties can also be attributed to neighborhood amenities like 24/7 security and the numerous canals winding throughout the community leading to Biscayne Bay. Gables by the Sea is also known for its tropical seclusion and the neighboring hundreds of acres of natural gardens, including Matheson Hammocks Park and Fairchild Tropical Gardens.
