What To Know Before You Move to Palmetto Bay

Palmetto Bay is a quiet, family-friendly community located between Pinecrest and Cutler Bay. Known for its plentiful green space and numerous top-rated schools, the “Village of Parks” is particularly attractive for families in search of the classic suburban lifestyle.

Though it is indeed a small town, Palmetto Bay carries a wide range of real estate. To introduce you to the area, we’ve put together this guide to the most important places in Palmetto Bay, and where to find them.

When Looking Up Palmetto Bay Online

When you Google ‘Palmetto Bay,’ one of the facts you’ll see listed is the city is divided into two neighborhoods – Cutler and East Perrine. This is a quirk of history on the internet and no person in real life uses those terms.

The reality is Palmetto Bay came into existence in 2002 – before 2002, the area was different neighborhoods of Miami-Dade County including what was then called Perrine (a neighborhood that was split by US-1), which is why you’ll still see West Perrine on Google Maps on the other side of US-1 from Palmetto Bay.

Schools in Palmetto Bay

Many of Palmetto Bay’s schools are located on the northern side of town (not that town is overly large, which is why many residents use golf carts to get around town), including Westminster Christian School. Just five minutes away from Westminster are Alexander Montessori School and Coral Reef Elementary School. A little further up North is Howard Drive Elementary School.

Parks in Palmetto Bay

Palmetto Bay is known as the “Village of Parks” because it contains more than 10 parks and preserves, several of which are considered the most beautiful in Miami-Dade county.

Coral Reef Elementary School is just a short walk from Coral Reef Park, which provides a bevy of playgrounds, picnic areas, walking paths, and a nature preserve. Closer to Westminster Christian School is the legendary Deering Estate, offering 400+ acres of land used for hiking, biking, concerts, food festivals, and soaking up some seriously stunning views of Biscayne Bay.

In East Perrine, multiple parks and preserves are located towards the coast including Bill Sadowski Park, Ludovici Park, Ned Glenn nature preserve and the Thalatta Estate, a popular venue for weddings.

Shopping in Palmetto Bay

There’s no shortage of shopping options in Palmetto Bay. About 5-10 minutes up North from Coral Reef Park you’ll find The Falls and Kings Bay Shopping Center. The former boasts more than 100 specialty stores and popular retailers surrounded by tropical foliage, whereas the latter is hailed for its selection of restaurants.
