When you’re listing your home, there is so much to do that it can be easy to forget something.

You’ll probably remember the big things like making some quick repairs and staging your home. But smaller things may get overlooked. This checklist will help you remember everything you need to tackle as you get ready to sell your home.

Review Your Online Listing

Google your address and see what comes up, and be sure to look over your online listing. Make sure all of the information is correct and that the photos show off your home’s best features. Nearly all homebuyers start their searches online, so make sure your home will make a great first impression.

List Out Improvements and Issues

Over the years, you’ve probably made a lot of repairs and solved many problems in your home. Maybe the basement flooded or you upgraded the electrical system. You have to disclose all of these things when you sell. Start your list early on because it may be tough to remember everything.

Vet Your Agent

A good agent gives you expert advice and gets your home sold. Before you hire a realtor, check their references. Set up a meeting to talk and get to know them. Find out about their level of knowledge of your neighborhood. Never list your house with someone you don’t feel comfortable with.

Focus on Details

Small things matter—like, does your doorbell ring? Tiny, cosmetic repairs can cost you a sale. When buyers notice that small things haven’t been kept up, it signals that the home isn’t cared for properly, and buyers may worry.

Clean Inside of Everything

Storage space is a major selling point. Buyers will open your cabinets, drawers, and closets. Before you start showing your house, clean out everything and deep clean the storage spaces. Actually, deep clean the entire house. Hiring a professional cleaning service will save you money in the long run.

Clarify What’s Included

Are you leaving your window treatments behind? Does your refrigerator stay after you move out? Make it clear what items are included in the sale. Buyers will appreciate knowing what they’re getting, and this will eliminate any misunderstandings.
