On the Lookout for Homestead Exemption Cheats

The Miami Herald recently published an article about homestead exemption fraud in Miami-Dade County, by Martha Brannigan. (Click here to view the full story). Miami-Dade Property Appraiser Carlos Lopez-Cantera has requested help from local cities in Miami-Dade County to put an end to the fraud, enlisting 16 investigators to begin the process. The Miami-Dade County property appraiser has around 2,900 leads that these detectives will begin working on after they complete the homestead exemption training. “Getting caught can be costly”, Brannigan states, “Under state law, violators must pay up to 10 years in back taxes, plus a 50 percent penalty, plus 15 percent annual interest.” “The official with the biggest stake in the effort was Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Alberto […]

11th Annual BNI Miami-Dade Charity Golf Tournament

It is that time of year, again! The 11th Annual BNI Miami-Dade Charity Golf Tournament benefitting Big City Mountaineers is just around the corner. The tournament will take place on Friday, September 20, 2013, at the historic Biltmore golf course. Lunch begins at 12:00 P.M., followed by a shotgun start, 18-hole scramble at 1:00 P.M. Coral Gables Market Update

The month of June was an interesting one for the Coral Gables real estate market. After a dip in the average price per square foot in May after a steady increase since the beginning of the year, the average price per square foot for closed sales jumped to $416. Palmetto Bay Market Update

I have quite a few well-qualified buyers interested in purchasing homes in the Village of Palmetto Bay. The problem we have: a lack of inventory, (meaning active listings). In February of this year, we saw the lowest number of single family homes for sale than in any month over the last year. There were only 77 homes for sale in the Village of Palmetto Bay last month, compared to 111 homes for sale in February of 2012.
