Miami is home to some of the most prestigious schools in the entire country. While many are private and don’t require you to live nearby, the reality is your quality of life is higher when you are spending less time shuttling kids around from home to school to their activities. So, when you are looking to send your kids to Westminster Christian School, we tend to recommend people to look at one of these several great family-friendly neighborhoods, specifically Northern Palmetto Bay and Southern Pinecrest. Both neighborhoods are particularly advantageous for young families who want to be near Westminster Christian School while enjoying a quieter, more toned-down lifestyle than more populated areas of Miami.
Compared to the city of Miami, Palmetto Bay is a much more affordable place to live. Though it’s a small village of approximately just 24,000 people, Palmetto Bay carries a wide range of properties, from sprawling estates to more modest, single-family residences. If the latter is more towards your budget, North Palmetto Bay is where you want to be. Here’s why:
Palmetto Bay is known as “The Village of Parks” because of its seven parks. One of the most beautiful parks just happens to be located on the Northern side: Coral Reef Park, which contains more than 50 acres of open green space that’s perfect for walking, sports, exercising, or a relaxing picnic with the family. The other six parks – like Palmetto Bay Park and Ludovici Park – are just a short drive away.
There is always something to do that’s just a short golf cart ride away on the north side of Palmetto Bay, whether you’re looking to shop, eat or just cruise around. The north side of Palmetto Bay (and by north side of Palmetto Bay we mean north of SW 168th St) also provides easy access to The Falls, a massive open-air shopping mall just across US1. The village of Palmetto Bay also hosts many events throughout the year including free outdoor movie nights at Coral Reef Park, 4th of July fireworks, farmers markets, and the famous Deering Bay Sea Food Festival!
Located just 20 minutes from Downtown Miami, Pinecrest offers a classic “small town” vibe you won’t find in other nearby villages. Like Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest is known for its parks, recreational centers and green space, and harbors a wide range of real estate. While many homes on the north side of Pinecrest have been built in the past 10-20 years, South Pinecrest (we measure South Pinecrest as south of SW 112th St) contains more of the classic Pinecrest homes anyone who grew up in Miami remembers from the 70s and 80s.
If you move to Southern Pinecrest, there’s a good chance most of your neighbors will be other families because the area provides easy access to numerous top rated public and private schools, like Pinecrest Elementary and Gulliver Preparatory School – and yes, Westminster Christian School.
On that note, Pinecrest is highly regarded for its tranquil atmosphere and quiet, tree-lined streets. Kids have plenty of room to play outside, and you won’t have to worry about noisy traffic or cars speeding by.
Pinecrest is a particularly tight-knit town. Residents are very welcoming to new families, often participate in local events from holiday parades to cultural festivals to community clean-up days. Join a fitness class or enroll your kids in sports at the Pinecrest Community Center. Visit Pinecrest Gardens or bring your pet to Pawcrest Park to meet some fellow furry friends. There’s no shortage of opportunities for adults and children to connect with their new neighbors. Lots of people move to Southern Pinecrest to feel a real sense of community and belonging, where you’re expected to socialize and join the fun.
If you’re interested in the area around Westminster Christian School, we’d recommend looking at homes between SW 112th St to the North, SW 168th St to the South, SW 97th Ave to the West, and Biscayne Bay to the east.
Our team also has had several children who have gone through Westminster Christian School, so we’d be happy to share our personal experiences as well.
