Our guide to Miami Schools: Charter Schools

The Drew Kern Team knows that education is important. And Miami-Dade County is home to some of the best public charter schools in the country. Whether you’re moving in from another city, or you already live in paradise and are looking for new options for your kids, here’s a list of some of the best charter schools Miami has to offer.

This list is in no particular order – the reality is the best school for one student is not necessarily the best for another, but we want to highlight good schools in different neighborhoods so parents know what options they have. 

Best Miami Charter Schools

Pinecrest Preparatory Academy

Neighborhood: Kendall

Grades: K – 5

Student-to-teacher ratio: 19:1

Pinecrest Preparatory Academy covers grades K – 5, creating a safe and engaging learning environment. It feeds into Pinecrest Preparatory Middle/High School, one of the highest ranked high schools in Florida. 

True North Classical Academy at Pinecrest & Dadeland

Neighborhood: Pinecrest & Dadeland

Grades: K – 12

Student-to-teacher ratio: 18:1

Styled in the traditional liberal arts tradition, True North Classical Academy offers a content-rich curriculum that focuses on moral and intellectual excellence. For Truth North Classical Academy students, 97% scored at or above proficient in math and 92% scored at or above proficient in reading. The main campus (through high school) is on Sunset just west of Dadeland but they also have three elementary schools & two preschool campuses. 

Somerset Academy South Miami Elementary Charter School

Neighborhood: South Miami

Grades: K – 5

Student-to-teacher ratio: 17:1

Opened during the 2009-10 school year, Somerset Academy South Miami Elementary Charter School is a highly rated, public charter school in South Miami. 86% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math and 90% scored at or above the proficient level for reading.

Aventura City of Excellence School

Neighborhood: Aventura

Grades: K – 8

Student-to-teacher ratio: 16:1 

Aventura City of Excellence School (ACES) opened in 2003 and serves students K – 8. Their students’ test proficiency scores are 62% higher than the Florida state average. 

Doral Academy Preparatory School

Neighborhood: Doral

Grades: K – 12

Student-to-teacher ratio: 29:1

Doral Academy comprises high-quality K-12 education through a variety of learning environments including Doral Just Arts & Management, Doral Academy North Charter Elementary, Middle & High, Doral Academy of Technology and Doral Academy Performing Arts & Entertainment. 

Archimedean Upper Conservatory

Neighborhood: Kendale Lakes

Grades: 9 – 12

Student-to-teacher ratio: 13:1

Beginning with a dream to attend to the minds of Greek and Greek-American residents of Miami, Archimedean Upper Conservatory has become one of the top charter schools in Florida. Archimedean Upper Conservatory ranks at #1 for Miami high schools and #4 for Florida high schools.

Don Soffer Aventura High School

Neighborhood: Aventura

Grades: 9 – 12

Student-to-teacher ratio: 21:1

Since opening in 2019 in Aventura FL, Don Soffer Aventura High School has become a top rated charter school. According to state test scores, 62% of students are proficient in math and 77% are proficient in reading. 

International Studies Charter High School

Neighborhood: Little Havana

Grades: 9 – 12

Student-to-teacher ratio: 20:1

International Studies Charter High School is a highly ranked high school by U.S. News & World Report. Established in 2004 as a result of French, Italian and Spanish consul collaboration, International Studies Charter High School offers a multicultural and multilingual educational experience.

BridgePrep Academy InterAmerican Campus

Neighborhood: Little Havana

Grades: K – 8

Student-to-teacher ratio: 15:1

BridgePrep Academy InterAmerican students score better than the state average in math and reading. 87% of their students scored at or above the proficient level for math and 82% scored at or above the proficient level for reading.
