A not-so hot take: Coral Gables is among the most luxurious and charming neighborhoods in the entire United States.
Known for its iconic Mediterranean architecture, tree-lined streets, and old world aesthetic, Coral Gables offers the perfect blend of a quiet, peaceful suburban lifestyle with an exciting shopping and nightlife scene. Adding its notable concentration of top-rated schools and you can quickly see why the Gables truly is the ‘City Beautiful.’
If you’re planning on making Coral Gables your new home, it’s helpful to know where to find these essential locations. To introduce you to the city, why we’ve broken it down into three sections- North, South/Central, and South.
Here’s what you can find in each:
The heart of downtown Gables centers around Miracle Mile – the length of Coral Way between Douglas Rd and Le Jeune for those of you new to the Gables. Here there’s easy access to the Gables’ offices, restaurants, and a wide array of shops. Roughly 20 blocks south you’ll come across Merrick Park – a shopper’s paradise with an array of designer brands, upscale restaurants & department stores as well as specialty shops. Between the two you’ll find a barrage of 1920s’ Mediterranean Revival style homes that the Gables is famous for.
On the west side of Le Jeune (and it goes all the way to Red Road) you’ll find the Venetian Pool and the Biltmore Hotel – as well as some newer (and bigger) homes that are still in the Mediterranean Revival style.
As you head South, you’ll begin to see bigger homes on the west side of this part of the Gables and more traditionally sized homes east of Le Juene.
This part of the Gables is also home to the University of Miami.
Just when you thought the Gables couldn’t possibly get any more luxurious, the southernmost region of the city is rife with magnificent estates containing gigantic swimming pools, spa-like bathrooms and full outdoor kitchens in the highly exclusive gated communities such as Cocoplum, Gables Estates, Gables-by-the-Sea and Old Cutler.
This part of the Gables extends along Biscayne Bay all the way down along Old Cutler Rd past SW 136th St. This includes Matheson Hammocks Park, and Fairchild Tropical Gardens. Spanning more than 80 acres, Fairchild Tropical Gardens showcases rare and exotic plants from all over the world along with a rainforest area and a butterfly garden.
